Sunday Policy

Stay at home on Sundays is a policy that we are trying to implement back home. Do the shopping, prayers, visiting relatives and friends on Saturdays. On Sundays, do nothing at home but relaxing, cleaning up and getting ready for the hectic weekdays. No traveling on Sundays also means a saving of precious petrol and wear-tear of the car. The notion of a Sabbath day is becoming more relevant in recent times.

Tips to save Petrol

. (Image source: http://www.ase.org) Tried and tested tips (tips source: here ) – something that most of us already known of but in some ways, fails to use them:- 1 ) Pump up your tyres Keeping your tyres inflated is one of the easiest and most important things. Saving petrol means saving money one can do to improve fuel economy. If a range is recommended by the manufacturer, the higher pressure should be used to maximize fuel efficiency. Deflated tyres run hot and jeopardize safety. It will also cause the tyres to wear out prematurely, affect the vehicles adversely, and hurt the fuel economy by increasing the rolling resistance. Tyres lose about 1 psi pressure per month due to air loss caused by the tyre hitting holes, bumps and kerbs. Therefore, the tyres should be checked at least once a month. Just 1 tyre deflated by 2 psi will result in a 1% increase in fuel consumption. 2) Drive at moderate speed Avoiding high speeds on open roads results in safer driving and better fuel economy.

Save electricity - PC

(That's more than 1.6 tons of CO2 thrown up into the atmosphere just to keep your one single PC working! Image source: Local Cooling) From Local Cooling :- More than 30 billion kilowatt-hours of energy is wasted because many of us simply forget to shut down our computers when we aren't using them. A barrel of oil contains 42 gallons and produces an average 556 kilowatt hours of electrical power. Now consider your computer. A good spec PC can use up to 200 watts per hour. If you have a CRT monitor, it adds a further 80 watts (TFT screens use less). So your system is consuming over 1 kWh of power for every four hours of normal use. If you leave your computer on 24/7, that's the equivalent of a whole barrel of oil every 90 days! (Electricity usage on my laptop - CPU takes the most of the power usage) Change your lifestyle – shutdown the PC if you are going for lunch (saves at least 45 minutes of electricity usage) or leaving for home.

The “Change Your Lifestyle” Concept

(Image source: www.hatiku.blogspot.com) The one that got most of people feeling angry :- Malaysians should change their lifestyle and adapt to the inevitable fuel price increase, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said. The Deputy Prime Minister said among the changes was for Malaysians to become more prudent in their spending and ensure that there was no wastage. "Such changes in lifestyle should be made so that even if there were increases in fuel prices, Malaysians will be able to continue having the good quality and comforts of life which they have been enjoying," he said. Najib and his famous “change your lifestyle”, sigh. When the fuel price went up recently, the available income to maintain the same lifestyle diminished fast. Many had to cut their usual expenses and focus on only necessity items (which incidentally cost more too). If one is to wait for the Government to change their lifestyle, one needs to wait forever. In the meantime, things will only going to cost more. S
